How REMEDIGAP Gets Paid: Full Transparency

By:Michael Quinn Published onJune 12, 2026June 12, 2026

We think you deserve to know exactly how this works before you talk to us or anyone else. Transparency about compensation is not just good manners. It is something you should expect from any agent who is asking for your trust.

In this article we’ll discuss:
  • You Do Not Pay Us
  • Insurance Carriers Pay Agent Commissions
  • Does Commission Create a Conflict of Interest?
  • Commission Structures: What You Should Know
  • What We Do Not Do
  • Why Transparency Matters to Us
  • Ready to Work With an Agent Who Has Nothing to Hide?

So here is the complete, no-fine-print answer to how REMEDIGAP gets paid.

You Do Not Pay Us

When you enroll in a Medicare plan through REMEDIGAP, you do not pay us anything. There is no service fee, no consultation charge, and no separate billing. The help we provide is free to you.

Insurance Carriers Pay Agent Commissions

Medicare insurance companies (carriers) pay agents a commission when a client enrolls in one of their plans. This is a standard practice across the insurance industry and is regulated by each state’s Insurance Department.

The commission comes from the carrier, not from you. It does not change the Premium you pay. Whether you enroll through an agent or directly with the insurance company, you pay the same rate. You are not paying extra for our involvement.

Does Commission Create a Conflict of Interest?

This is the fair question to ask, and we take it seriously.

The commission-based model is sometimes criticized because it could, in theory, motivate an agent to recommend the plan that pays the highest commission rather than the plan that best fits the client. That is a real concern, and you should ask any agent about it.

Here is how we address it at REMEDIGAP.

We are independent. We represent multiple carriers. Read more about why independent agents work better for you. We are not employed by any single insurance company and are not under pressure to sell one carrier’s products over another.

Medicare Supplement commissions are regulated and relatively similar across carriers. The differences in commission between Medigap carriers are generally small. If we recommend one carrier over another, it is because of premium rates, company financial strength, and rate history, not because we earn significantly more from that carrier.

Our long-term interest is in your satisfaction. Agents who recommend the wrong plan get a commission once. Agents who build a long-term relationship with a satisfied client get referrals, renewals, and trust that leads to more clients over time. Our business depends on doing right by you.

We will never recommend a plan we do not believe is in your best interest. And we welcome you to ask us directly: “Are you earning more commission from this carrier than from another?” We will answer. You can also review the questions to ask your Medicare agent to prepare for a transparent conversation.

Commission Structures: What You Should Know

For Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans, agents earn a commission in the first year of enrollment and a smaller renewal commission in subsequent years, as long as the client stays on the plan.

For Medicare Advantage and Part D plans, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) sets strict limits on what carriers can pay agents. These caps are designed to remove financial incentives to push someone toward Medicare Advantage over other options.

This means that across Medicare plan types, the commission structure is reasonably similar. The financial incentive to recommend one type of plan over another is not as large as many people assume.

What We Do Not Do

We do not charge consulting fees. We do not add anything to your premium. We do not sell your information to third parties. We do not have quotas from any single carrier that pressure us to recommend one company over another.

Why Transparency Matters to Us

We started REMEDIGAP because we believe Medicare beneficiaries deserve clear information and honest guidance. The Medicare insurance market is full of agents who are more interested in a quick enrollment than in the right long-term fit for the person they are serving.

We think the way to be different is to be honest. That includes being honest about how we are compensated.

If you have questions about our compensation, our carrier relationships, or anything else about how we operate, ask us. We would rather have that conversation and earn your trust than avoid it and leave you wondering.
